Long Synopsis:
“Birth is not a Beginning, Death is not an end.” This is the gist of Stuck Universe, a sarcastic quick-witted feature film about relationships, life, and death.
The main character Adam is stuck in a life where he hates everything. The only place he can be himself is in his own head, where an ongoing internal monologue serves as a compass to his true feelings.
Outwardly Adam is weak. He allows his wife, his boss, his job, their marriage counselor, his co-workers and everyone else to completely walk all over him. In his head, though, he is king. By contrast, his wife is outwardly strong, overbearing and demanding, yet inwardly weak and emotionally distraught.
Once they were happy, but life and everyday mundane existence has a way of making people lose sight of the reason they got together in the first place. As Evelyn (a mysterious muse) explains, it’s about relationships, more importantly, the ending of one and learning to let go.
But Adam has a darlky amusing hard time ahead of him. Infidelity abounds, and Adam has a dream about himself dying at work. The next morning, his co worker dies in the exact same fashion Adam did in his dream, leaving Adam shocked and confused.
A second "death dream" ensues, and Adam starts thinking he has super natural powers and it is his duty to save the lives of those whose deaths he foresees. Along the way he'll face death while constantly battling his crumbling relationship with his wife, only to realize that nothing is as it seems. In the end, Adam realizes that maybe Evelyn really did have something substantial to say with her vague metaphysical talk.
But, of course, he wasn't listening.
Stuck Universe is a story with a lot of hidden heart and depth, wrapped in an easy to approach coating of dark humor. The humor lets you ultimately relate to the humanity of these self-serving characters, and in the end, the viewer truly cares for and understands the human condition that drives good people to do bad things.
